Assai Primary and Secondary Public School

Assai Primary & Secondary Public School is located in Kirkos Sub-City woreda 02 in the heart of the capital city, Addis Ababa.  It was established in 1965, as a private boarding kindergarten, by the late Ato Wolde Gebriel T/Haimanot.  It started its service with nine children and three teachers.  Both the children and the teachers were foreigners.  Eventually, many Ethiopian children and teachers joined the kindergarten.  Four years later, the kindergarten was upgraded to a primary school and became a non-boarding facility to provide a full day regular program. 

 Following the proclamation of 1975, which nationalized all privately owned schools, the management responsibility of Assai Public School fell on elected parent’s committee.  This body has now emerged as the school’s Management and Administration committee, whose members are elected representatives of parents, community members, teachers’ association members, and the principal.
